The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) & Passion of the Christ (2004) BOOK VS FILM
Manage episode 325129408 series 2982355
Welcome to DEATH BY ADAPTATION, a bi-weekly book club where we choose one classic book and compare and contrast it against its cinematic adaptations.
In this special Easter episode, we discuss the controversial retelling of the life of Jesus of Nazareth in THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST (book by Nikos Kazantzakis, film by Martin Scorsese), as well as the bloody 2004 film THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, directed by Mel Gibson. We talk about the beauty of a flawed Jesus, the fascinating casting in Scorsese's film, and the dangerous anti-semitic undertones of Gibson's movie.
