Darrell Finlayson has been a ski patroller for 28 consecutive seasons at Deer Valley in Utah, many of those years on Telemark gear. He’s also a full-time bike patroller at Deer Valley during the summer.

He’s originally from New York State where he grew up skiing and enjoying the outdoors. After college he picked up his first Ski Patrol job at Mount Snow, Vermont for a few seasons before heading west. That’s when he scored his gig at Deer Valley almost 3 decades ago.

In the early 2000s he became friends with Noah and Jonah Howell who were both working at Deer Valley. The brothers, along with some of their friends started filming their backcountry outings and deep powder turns. These clips first appeared in a Toughguy Productions movie, under the name Powederwhore, and then in 2005 they dropped their own movie called PW05. My guest was one of the original cast members of the first Powderwhore movie and went on to appear in several others.

Aside from being a long time patroller, he’s also a proficient backcountry skier.
