Arnold and Helga end up at the same beach resort for what’s supposed to be a relaxing summertime getaway. But before Helga can put Operation Be Nice to Arnold into action, Summer (the girl) comes calling for Arnold, threatening to ruin Helga’s whole summer (the season). Helga warns a smitten Arnold that the bombshell isn’t all that she seems, but given their contentious relationship, Arnold isn’t quite ready to believe Helga. Some episodes of Hey Arnold! feel cursed – like despite top-tier writing talent and a great premise, they still miss the mark and leave a terrible taste behind. “Summer Love” is one of those rare strange episodes that just doesn’t sit right. In this episode, the Kidz mull over the implications of this fateful summer vacation, the strange side-plots that litter the beach, and why this one feels worse than sand in your swim shorts.
