In this interview, we speak to Sharmini Thomas, founder of Sharmini's Indian Cuisine. We talk business and why awards have been so important to her business success. Sharmini has won many awards, including Best Consumer Business in the Best Businesswomen Awards 2022.

Renowned for her delicious authentic curries, Sharmini has bested some of York’s top Indian Chefs, including Bengal Brasserie, Jaipur Spice, and Rafi’s Spice Box, by winning The Yorkshire Vision Curry Contest. Her curry was voted by 95% of the public as being in the top three.

Through her cookery classes, her business unravels and helps customers to understand the mysteries of Indian Cuisine, including the proportion of ingredients used, the layering of spices and why you need a keen sense of smell!

Sharmini Thomas, originally from Kerala, is a York-based Cookery Tutor who began conducting Indian Cooking Courses through the City of York’s Adult Education over 20 years ago. In the year 2008, she decided to take the reins and start her own cookery school, which led to the conception of Sharmini’s Inspirational Indian Cuisine.
