55. Disease is not a Punishment: A Dive into German New Medicine │ Dr. Melissa Sell
Manage episode 363464062 series 3476460
After becoming a chiropractor and beginning her holistic wellness practice in 2012, Dr. Melissa Sell kept meeting patients who, in spite of approaching their environment, diet, and lifestyle with care and attention seemed to remain unwell. In 2017, Dr. Melissa found a profoundly different medical model that made sense of it all. This model is called German New Medicine, and in today’s episode, we dive deep into the roots of disease. Through the GNM lens, disease is not a punishment for bad lifestyle, instead it is evidence of adaptation. From acne to cancer, acute illness and chronic pain, disease can be seen as a special program our body is running in order to heal from a conflict we’ve experienced. While these traumas may have a psychological impact like grief or fear, the program our body runs is biological, not psychosomatic.
What happens when we reframe the familiar story that disease is a punishment for not taking good enough care of our bodies, and instead see it as nature’s purposeful, meaningful enhancement, meant to help our species survive on a grand scale? This framing flies in the face of the transhumanist medical model, where chemical or surgical interventions are offered and even glorified in place of root cause healing. You'll walk away from this conversation with a deeper look at the GNM understanding of viruses and colds, sexual orientation, transgenderism, the role of herbs and other holistic remedies in the healing process, and how uncovering the stories of our lives can help us find permanent solutions to our problems.
