Happy Friday UMMPod Nation! Today's special episode focuses on the current state of The SC Venue Crisis.
We've discussed the SC Venue Crisis on the show in recent episodes. However, with the recent announcement of the closure of Smiley's (another local favorite), we felt the need to propel this issue to the forefront once and for all.
For those of you unaware of the current situation: Current SC laws and legislation are requiring businesses to pay unheard of amounts from insurance/liabilities, and have been steadily increasing these amounts over the last several years (only to fill the pockets of a wealthy few). This is leading to the closure of many amazing local venues across the state, and its really starting to hit home. The time is now to act, and the SC Venue Crisis a.k.a. "The Prohibition Coalition" is fighting back to sustain the livelihood of the folks that make this industry their life's work.
Follow them @SC Venue Crisis or @Save SC Small Venues and Bars, or visit their linktree: Linktr.ee/scvenuecrisis. There are multiple town hall meetings across the state addressing these issues as well. Please feel free to email a local government representative (SC Venue Crisis' page offers plenty of resources) and let your voice be heard!
Thank you UMMPod Nation! Anything you can do to support the hard-working musicians and business owners means the world to all of us! See you next week!
