In November 1989, Julie Hogg went missing. Weeks passed without any indication of her whereabouts. Then, in February 1990, her mother discovered Julie's body hidden behind a bath panel in her own home.

The primary suspect was Billy Dunlop. Dunlop was tried twice for her murder, but on both occasions, the juries failed to reach a verdict. As a result, he was formally acquitted.

Historically in the UK, the "double jeopardy" law prevented a person from being tried for the same crime twice. However, due to changes in the law in 2003, which allowed retrials for certain serious offenses if "new and compelling" evidence emerged, Dunlop became the first person in England and Wales to be retried for the same crime after being acquitted.

In 2006, almost 17 years after Julie Hogg's murder, Dunlop pleaded guilty to her manslaughter and was sentenced to life in prison.

Almost entirely because of the legend that is Julie’s mother, Ann Ming.

Join us as we talk about this case through Ann’s eyes.
