“And I do understand why it is an issue in the disability community. I shouldn't be speaking for people with disability. I need to speak for my son because he's non speaking and I am his advocate, but I I quickly learned the tension that exists here and I'm now a lot more respectful of it”

What does it mean to be a voice for someone with disability?

Due to Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, seven year old Arlo is nonverbal. Mum Melanie talks to how Arlo communicates with AAC, which makes him the most popular kid in school.

As a journalist herself, she discusses the boundaries that are put in place to support disabled voices in the media without devaluing those who have lived experience.

Listen to Mel’s story as she discovers how her "worst nightmare" of having a disabled child, turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her.

PLUS Dylan and Angus say Thank You for the year and share their goals for 2024!
