Brittney Phillips: The Lessons Learned from Navigating the Challenges of a Blended Family
Manage episode 397057448 series 3461746
Most people go into marriage believing that it is going to last forever but statistics show this is not the case. 40% of families in the US are step-families and 70% of blended families include partners with children from previous relationships. Even in thinking of “traditional” family dynamics, we often laugh at how complicated these relationships can be, but when it comes to parenting a blended family, a whole new set of challenges can spring up– putting a ton of pressure on a marriage. This week on Journeys Through Change, my guest Brittney Phillips and I are talking about the lessons she learned from navigating the challenges of a blended family.
Brittney Phillips uses her own experience blending a family to help others do the same. She works with women to strengthen their blended family by focusing on the following areas: strengthening themselves, strengthening their marriage, strengthening the family unit and strengthening their relationship with God.
In this episode, Brittney and I discuss:
- The adjustments Brittney, her new husband, and their children had to go through in order to function in this new family unit.
- Navigating the loyalty bind that many children face when introduced to a new parental figure in their life.
- Recognizing and understanding your triggers is the first step towards healing.
- The difficult times that eventually brought everyone closer together.
- 7 phases that every blended family goes through on their journey to adjust together.
