Hello and welcome back to Building with BuildHer for 2024.
In the time we were away, we've been busy renovating a new space to hold events for our developers, members, and suppliers. We've also been doing a lot of planning to ensure we provide you with the best information and resources to make the most out of your building projects.
We've noticed that many people struggle with building and renovating due to a lack of understanding of the basics. Therefore, we have decided to go back to the fundamentals and guide our listeners on how to start their building journey.
Today, we discuss the initial step in any building or renovating project - determining our budget. Our budget will then shape our choice of build methods. We shine a spotlight on different building methods that cater to various budgets and skillsets, and we'll help you find the right fit for your needs.
- Owner Builder: We explain the concept of owner builders and the pros and cons of taking on this role. While it may be suitable for minor renovations, it requires a deep understanding of the construction process.
- Blended Builder: This approach combines the expertise of both the owner and a professional builder. We delve into the benefits and considerations of this method, highlighting real-life case studies to showcase its effectiveness.
- Design and Construct: Another popular method is design and construct, where builders take charge of both the design and construction process. We discuss the advantages and potential downsides of this approach.
- Volume Builder: For individuals looking for a hassle-free experience, working with a volume builder can be an excellent option. We highlight the benefits and potential trade-offs of choosing a volume builder.
In the coming weeks, we will be interviewing people with success stories using each of these different methods. Their experiences will provide valuable insights and advice on how to choose the best approach for our unique circumstances.
Building or renovating a home is an exciting and rewarding experience, and we are here to guide us every step of the way. Thank you for being a part of the Building with BuildUs community. Let's make 2024 a year of successful building and renovation projects!
