Key Discussion Points

In this episode, the ladies discuss what unforgiveness can do to your body. Therefore, what is forgiveness? Forgiveness is a process and part of the process is being able to forgive those that have hurt in order to fully heal. Also, it is about not holding grudges and learning to let go so that you can move forward. So, what is unforgiveness? Unforgiveness is holding a grudge against someone who has offended you. When you harbor unforgiveness; it can have negative effects on the body that may result in:

  • Emotional eating - eating when you are not hungry or binge eating. Eating unhealthy foods (i.e., cookies, ice cream, etc.) in excess. The food is being consumed to try and fill the void and to avoid the emotions and/or feelings that are coming up

  • Always occupied (i.e., doing too much) - always being busy, working multiple jobs, or always having something to do so you don’t have to face the hurt and emotions you’re feeling

  • Retail “therapy” - spending money on things that you may not even necessarily need at that time but you buy it anyway

Remember that stress affects us mentally, spiritually and emotionally. If you are harboring any unforgiveness it will produce anger, bitterness, and resentment. These feelings can lead you down a destructive path that could lead to negative coping mechanisms (i.e., drugs, alcohol, promiscuity).

Therefore, on this journey of forgiveness you cannot expect people to apologize or process their feelings the same way that you do. Also, do not expect that the person will understand how you felt or are feeling about the situation. Do not expect that the people who have offended you will have the skills to start their own journey to forgiveness. In the meantime, remember to:

  • Guard your heart and mind - be mindful of the things that you watch and what as well as who you are listening to

  • Be willing to do the work and face the emotions that you are feeling so you can address them in a healthy way

  • Know your circle - make sure the people in your circle will be able to lift you up, speak positivity and not keep you in that stuck place

Please remember that healing is YOUR responsibility! So we leave you with this one question; are you willing to let go of that unforgiveness?
