What’s the Happiness Wheel? And how can you use it as a compass toward a happier life?

In today's episode, hosts Deb Turton and Guy Daigneault go over the seven areas of life, discuss what happens when you’re consistently low on happiness in one particular area, and share what you can do to achieve happiness in life.

  • Today’s episode is the "grand finale" of the first season of Happiness Within Chaos.
  • Taking the Happiness Score will provide you with a number, which will be the anchor of moving forward in trying to increase your level in all seven areas of life.
  • Guy discusses the seven areas of life (family, friends, finance, career, health, personal growth, and spirituality) – and why they’re key when it comes to the Happiness Score and trying to live a better life.
  • For Deb, balance is a key element to our happiness.
  • It’s important to notice, says Guy, that not every person will have their seven areas in the exact same order as someone else, and that’s ok.
  • Keep in mind that your focus may change. At the beginning of a year, for example, you may decide that you’ll be focusing on your career. You’ll still be aware of the other six areas but will put more emphasis and more energy on your career.
  • Guy thinks that a good approach is to look at the wheel of happiness, identify the one area you’re unhappy with and put most of your focus on it.
  • Deb and Guy believe that trying to keep all of the seven areas of life balanced is the goal because, as Guy puts it, “When we’re in balance, happiness comes easier.”
  • Deb suggests looking at an area, analyzing it through something like journaling, then putting a plan together and committing yourself to actually change things.
  • The reason why the wheel of happiness has seven areas in it, and not more, is that people can get overwhelmed when they have too many things to focus on and do.
  • The Happiness Wheel that Guy and Deb have created doesn’t include anything related to buying stuff because science has proven that experiences bring a higher level of happiness than material things.
  • Guy and Deb talk about how tracking your Happiness Score will affect your life, plus the role being in the flow plays.
