Ep 58 - Record EVERYTHING
Manage episode 407380062 series 3560694
I am SO GUILTY of not recording enough of my own stuff. I play riffs on my guitar and then just forget them. My creative process is unknown to the world because I never actually document it. Hell, it took me until the past year to actually record my live shows!
My advice to other musicians is quite simple: don't be like me! Today there is no excuse to lack recordings of all these things: live shows, demo ideas, tour updates, studio footage...it's all doable simply by taking out your phone once in a while. It doesn't even have to be video - audio recordings are great too!
I am not advising people to RELEASE everything. Of course plenty of content is not really worthy to be seen by the eyes of the world. But here's the thing....you need to record a bunch of duds in order to end up with something interesting and / or unique. It's the same concept as writing music: you're going to have a few bland songs for every hit.
My new year's resolution is to be better at documenting my life as a musician. Even if I can do 5 minutes per week that's SO much better than I've been doing. It's a simple way to connect with the world, with other musicians and fans alike. After all, we can connect over our creative endeavours, and it's easier than ever in the age of the Internet. I'm going to be quite bad at it, but I'm excited nonetheless!
