Currently holding the Karen and Ronald Hermann Distinguished Chair in Caregiver Research at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School of Nursing, Dr. Epps is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Southern Gerontological Society, and Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Epps is deeply involved in addressing health disparities for underserved populations. Serving on the Board of Directors for the Southern Gerontological Society and Alzheimer's Association Georgia Chapter, she also contributes to the Leadership Core of the Public Health Center of Excellence in Dementia Caregiving at the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on evidence-based practices to enhance the quality of life for African Americans with dementia and their family caregivers. Dr. Epps explores the impact of religious activities and spiritual connectedness on meaningful engagement among persons with dementia. Founder of Alter (Dementia), a nurse-led, dementia-friendly congregation program, she oversees projects like "Dementia-Friendly Online Worship" and "Caregiving while Black." Dr. Epps received the 2022 Innovations in Alzheimer's Caregiving Award from the Family Caregiver Alliance.
