The Mummafesto: Joeli Brearley, founder of Pregnant then Screwed
Manage episode 414580528 series 3556366
The Mummafesto podcast is hosted by Stella Creasy MP, a Labour backbench MP and mum of two young children. Each week it considers how parenting influences politics.
In episode 8 I speak to Joeli Brearley, founder of Pregnant the Screwed. In 2015 Joeli founded Pregnant Then Screwed, after being fired by her employer just two days after telling them she was pregnant. Pregnant Then Screwed is a charity dedicated to ending the motherhood penalty and supports thousands of women each year. Alongside her campaign work, Joeli is an author, an Amnesty International Human Rights Defender and a member of the United Nations Working Group: Women’s Human Rights in the Changing World of Work. In January 2021 she took the Government to court for indirect sex discrimination due to the way self-employed mothers were being financially penalised by the income support scheme.
You can find out more about Pregnant then Screwed and their amazing work via their website and Instagram.
