Gerard John Schaefer was a police officer in Florida, and was also a serial killer, rapist, and sexual sadist. Schaefer would be charged with the murders of two hitchhikers, Susan Place and Georgia Jessup. In 1973 he was found guilty or murder, given two life sentences, and sent to Florida State Prison to serve his time. Authorities soon stated that he was linked to some 30 to 35 missing women and girls. On December 3, 1995, Schaefer would be stabbed to death in prison by his cellmate, Vincent Rivera, himself a double murderer. Schaefer had been stabbed 42 times, had his throat slit, and was stabbed in the eyes by RIvera using a handmade shank.
