After expanding on this, exploring why repealing these sanctions regardless of the future of this recent election’s results must be at the center of US Foreign Policy and looking at why the sanctions failed (as they always do), North walks Sam through the history of Venezuela’s generally free and fair elections, and what went different this time around, with the mass refugee exodus from the country playing a central role in Maduro’s shady win. Wrapping up, James and Sam tackle why the US needs to step back from Latin American politics, and how this crisis can help recenter the conversation around immigration.
