The last week (5-9th August 2024) has been a volatile time in international sharemarkets. As investors, it can be easy to read dramatic news headlines about and react to them, so we wanted to take the chance to chat through specifically what happened in the sharemarkets, and what this means for you as the everyday investor.

To share insights and provide further context, Christine is joined on the podcast by Rhea Prasad, Portfolio Manager at Kernel.
More specifically, we chat about:

  • Why the Japanese stock exchange dropped 12% in one day
  • The impact of this drop on the wider sharemarkets, e.g. the S&P 500 Index
  • What market volatility is
  • Key investing reminders in times of volatility
