The CJNG, or Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, is one of the most powerful and notorious criminal organizations in Mexico. It is a drug trafficking cartel that primarily operates in the western state of Jalisco, but its influence extends throughout Mexico and into other countries. The CJNG was founded in 2010 by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as "El Mencho," a former member of the Milenio Cartel. Since its inception, the CJNG has rapidly grown in power and has become one of the leading criminal organizations in the country, challenging the Sinaloa Cartel for dominance in the Mexican drug trade.
The CJNG is involved in various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and acts of violence. It has established a reputation for its brutality and willingness to engage in acts of extreme violence to control its territories and eliminate rival cartels. The group has been responsible for numerous high-profile acts of violence, including mass killings, ambushes on law enforcement, and the use of explosives.
The cartel has expanded its operations internationally, with a significant presence in the United States and other countries. It has developed sophisticated smuggling networks and has been able to transport large quantities of drugs, primarily methamphetamine and fentanyl, across the U.S.-Mexico border. The CJNG has also engaged in territorial disputes with other cartels, leading to intense violence and instability in several regions of Mexico. It has clashed with the Sinaloa Cartel, Los Zetas, and other criminal organizations, resulting in a wave of violence that has claimed thousands of lives.Despite facing significant law enforcement pressure, the CJNG continues to operate and expand its influence.
It has shown resilience in adapting its tactics and maintaining a strong presence in various regions of Mexico. Its ability to corrupt officials, including police and politicians, has contributed to its longevity and ability to evade capture. The CJNG poses a significant challenge to Mexican authorities and represents a major threat to public security in the country. Efforts to dismantle the cartel have proven difficult, and its influence remains a source of concern for both Mexican and international law enforcement agencies.
