The winner of Georgia's Strongest Man competition towered over me in our chat for this podcast...which you really should subscribe to, like, follow. Columbus GA native Trotter Barringer, who is now headed to Strongman nationals, gives us his regiment for the gym, nutrition, and balance with family/church life. (3:20) We talk first about how and why he transitioned from basketball and football to powerlifting then Strongman events. Trotter also had advice on strength training (for those who don't always like going to the gym). He says you can study like he did, then gotta put in the work. He's at the gym 4 days a week, for more than 12 hours total. There's plenty of sacrifice and recovery. (10:15) What about food and fuel for all those workouts? He aims to eat at least 7,000 calories per day! It isn't easy. His favorite go-to food is Mac n Cheese. (12:40) He describes what it was like winning the Georgia Strongest Man competition in his hometown, which included liftings things like 400 pound kegs and stones. You'll want to hear his top stats too for squats, deadlifts, and bench presses. Strongman competition preparation (16:12) also includes a lot of mental reps! How does he do that? And how do his coaches, wife help? Trotter also has to push through the pain, without getting injured. (22:05) Now, his oldest of 3 children, 9-year-old son is keeping in kids strongman events. There are also misconceptions about the sport, sometimes confused with body building, on stage in speedos. If he gets Top 3 at Nationals in Greenville SC September 20-21, he'll get his "pro card." The goal is eventually World's Strongest Man. Could this tall guy use his strength to maybe play in the NFL too? (29:47) Trotter also has a passion to be a man of God and pursue His will. He explains how he tries to be Christ-like in the gym, at work, and everywhere. But why powerlifting? He explains. And his favorite thing is having a max goal...and missing it! Keep improving, never be satisfied. (36:23) And this Strongman's got a few things he's focusing on heading into competition vs some of the best in the nation. I close us out in prayer.
