The country could be headed for another government shutdown at the end of this month if a must-pass budget bill stalls in the House. And Donald Trump is leading the calls for the government to be shut down a month before the election. His qualm involves a piece of legislation that Republicans are pushing that would make it harder to register to vote, and he says that if Democrats won't get on board with the legislation then Republicans should shut the whole government down.
Also, Donald Trump recently appeared at a Moms for Liberty summit where he told the most insane lie of his third presidential campaign - and maybe his most insane lie ever. While trying to appeal to the hardline conservative group, Trump claimed that public schools are now performing sexual reassignment surgery on students without their parents' permission. This has not only never happened, but it is impossible for schools to perform surgery. But these are the lengths this man will go to in order to gain votes.
And Donald Trump received more legal bad news this week when a judge slapped down his request to move his hush money case to federal court, and instead of handling it like a champ, he decided to get on Truth Social and have a nervous breakdown. During his rant, he said that the United States is a "failing nation," a statement that immediately prompted backlash from people who actually love the country.
Finally, during his "town hall" with Sean Hannity this week, Donald Trump told the crowd that voters in Pennsylvania have "no choice" but to vote for him, even if they don't like him. He said this in response to a five-year-old clip of Kamala Harris saying that she would ban fracking on day one, which prompted Trump to falsely claim that fracking is the biggest industry in Pennsylvania and the biggest employer in the state. Those statements are not true, and Harris has already softened her position on the issue, as Farron explains.
