Karen Read’s high-profile retrial just took a dramatic constitutional turn. In this episode, we break down the emergency petition her legal team filed with the U.S. Supreme Court—arguing that retrying her violates the Fifth Amendment’s Double Jeopardy Clause. While jury selection was already underway in Dedham, Massachusetts, her attorneys went to the nation’s highest court claiming that the first jury had already reached a unanimous—but unannounced—“not guilty” verdict on two of the three charges. Now they’re asking the Court to intervene. We walk you through exactly what’s in the petition, why her legal team believes her retrial is unconstitutional, and how courts in Massachusetts and the federal system have responded so far. This isn’t just a legal technicality—it’s a strategic, last-ditch effort to stop the trial in its tracks. From the original mistrial to the court rulings that rejected her double jeopardy claims, we trace every step of the legal fight that led to this extraordinary moment. Finally, we explore what happens next. Will the Supreme Court take the case? What are the chances they’ll intervene mid-trial? Could this reshape how mistrials and jury deliberations are handled across the country? Whether you're following the Karen Read trial daily or just tuning in, this episode gives you a deep, clear, and fact-driven look into one of the most pivotal legal battles unfolding right now. In this episode, we dive into the findings of an independent audit of the Canton Police Department (CPD), conducted between November 2024 and March 2025. The audit was commissioned in response to growing concerns over the investigation into the tragic death of Officer John O’Keefe and allegations of misconduct within the department. We’ll examine how the CPD mishandled key elements of the case, particularly in terms of crime scene management and evidence collection , and what the audit revealed about internal affairs practices and public perception of the department’s actions. The audit uncovered multiple procedural failures , including a failure to photograph the crime scene before Officer O'Keefe’s body was moved and significant delays in transferring crucial evidence . While these errors raised serious concerns, the audit ultimately found no evidence of deliberate cover-ups or intentional misconduct. However, the lack of transparency and inconsistent internal processes within the department left the public questioning the integrity of the investigation. The audit also highlighted how social media movements like “Free Karen Read” fueled the narrative of a police cover-up , contributing to a breakdown in trust between the CPD and the public. The findings have led to a series of recommendations aimed at improving accountability , training , and internal oversight within the CPD. This episode explores the implications of the audit’s results, how it sheds light on the ongoing issues surrounding the Officer O’Keefe investigation, and what steps the CPD needs to take to rebuild public trust . If you’re following the case of Officer O'Keefe’s death or interested in law enforcement accountability, this episode will give you an in-depth look at what went wrong and how it could be fixed. Could leaking autopsy photos and witness addresses to a controversial blogger land Karen Read in even deeper legal trouble? In this jaw-dropping segment of Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski , former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis joins to unpack the chaotic web swirling around the alleged actions of Karen Read. With jury selection looming, new bombshells explode in the courtroom as the judge allows alleged direct messages between Read and blogger Aidan Kearney—aka Turtleboy—to be admitted as evidence. We’re talking autopsy pics, witness addresses, even alleged grand jury material making its way into the hands of a man already facing his own charges for witness intimidation. Is this free speech gone rogue, or something far darker? Tony and Eric explore the blurred line between zealous defense tactics and straight-up obstruction of justice. From potential accomplice liability to the chilling implications of doxxing, harassment, and a public vendetta-style campaign, this saga is turning into a legal thriller no one could have scripted. How much trouble could Karen Read really be in if she's seen as enabling all of this? #KarenReadCase #TrueCrimeToday #WitnessIntimidation #Turtleboy #HiddenKillersPodcast #LegalDrama #TrueCrimeCommunity Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Michael Proctor-The Investigator on Trial Former Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor is out of a job—and headed back to court. Not as a defendant, but as a witness. Again. It’s been less than a month since Proctor was fired for misconduct tied directly to the Karen Read investigation, and now his name is back in the headlines, sitting squarely on the witness list for Read’s second murder trial. You know, the one where she’s accused of killing her Boston Police Officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe. Now, if you remember the first trial—and the jurors certainly do—Proctor didn’t exactly win hearts or instill trust when he took the stand. Jurors were seen literally shaking their heads during his testimony. And that wasn’t because of some complicated forensic data or technical jargon. No, it was the texts . Texts where he called the defendant a “wack job,” a “babe with no a--,” and, just to round things out, a “c---.” If that wasn’t enough, he added that he hoped she’d kill herself. This wasn’t locker room talk caught off-hand—it was in writing, and it was read aloud in court. Then there was the part where he joked about finding nude selfies while combing through her phone. This is the guy who was in charge of the investigation. The lead. The point man. That display helped sink the prosecution’s momentum and, according to legal analysts, played no small role in the trial ending in a mistrial. That mistrial reset everything. And now, here we are again—same case, new trial, with Proctor’s career already in the rearview mirror, but his actions still very much in play. Despite the messages and his dismissal from the State Police, Proctor’s camp hasn’t wavered. His wife and sister, who—surprise—are also on the witness list, say the messages didn’t compromise the investigation. His wife, Elizabeth Proctor, told reporters that this is all just courtroom misdirection. In her words: “At the end of the day, a beloved police officer and honorable man was killed.” Her take? The prosecution has the facts, and the defense is simply turning the spotlight on her husband to muddy the waters. Texts to friends and family on his personal phone, she says, aren’t enough to derail a murder case. But they already did. Let’s not forget, those same texts sparked an internal investigation and got Proctor canned. That fallout, in the eyes of many, tainted the trial beyond repair. And when your lead investigator’s credibility is in the gutter, so is your case’s foundation. And speaking of shaky foundations—Aidan Kearney, a local blogger who was charged with harassing and intimidating witnesses during the first trial, is also on the witness list. He’s not alone. There’s Brian Higgins, the ATF agent reportedly inside the same house where O’Keefe ended up dead outside. The homeowner, Brian Albert, and his family? Also on the list. And then there’s Dr. Daniel Wolfe, an accident reconstruction expert, lined up to re-analyze the physical evidence. Basically, if you had anything to do with the first trial—whether you were inside the house, near the driveway, or scrolling Twitter too loudly—you’re probably on this witness list. One name that won’t be testifying this time? Michael Easter. He’s a retired FBI agent who was expected to dismantle the original investigation piece by piece. But on Monday, Judge Beverly Cannone granted the prosecution’s motion to block his testimony. His expert breakdown of how the police allegedly fumbled the case? Not coming to a courtroom near you. So, here’s where we land. The person who was supposed to bring clarity and leadership to this investigation—Michael Proctor—ended up bringing chaos and controversy. And now, in round two, he's back under oath, minus the badge, with a reputation already in flames. #KarenReadTrial #MichaelProctor #TrueCrime #JusticeOrJustDrama Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Did Karen Read knowingly cross the line into witness intimidation, or did things just spiral way too far? In this explosive episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski , former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis unpacks the tangled mess surrounding Karen Read’s legal strategy—or lack thereof. From allegedly leaking witness addresses to participating in a documentary that might as well have been titled “How to Self-Sabotage Your Defense,” the conversation dives into how bad decisions, eyebrow-raising behavior, and a curious absence of legal guardrails may be shaping public perception and potentially influencing her trial. Why did the judge block key communications from entering the courtroom? Did her defense team sleep through media training 101? And could new charges completely derail her current murder trial? Is this still about the death of John O’Keefe—or has the chaos after the fact become the real headline? #KarenRead #TrueCrimeToday #HiddenKillers #JohnOKeefe #WitnessIntimidation #TrueCrimePodcast #EricFaddis Ready for the next part when you are. Karen Read's Communications Could Be Her Undoing — Attorney Eric Faddis Explains Could encouraging a blogger to "expose the truth" actually land you in prison? Karen Read's murder trial just took another wild turn, and it's not just about the death of Officer John O'Keefe anymore. Allegedly feeding private autopsy photos, witness addresses, and grand jury material to a controversial blogger under indictment himself? Yeah, that's where this gets dicey. Former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis joins Tony Brueski to unpack the legal minefield that’s unfolding like a true crime reality show. We’re talking accomplice liability, witness intimidation, and whether cheering on someone nicknamed “Turtleboy” could potentially make you part of a criminal conspiracy. Can texting “great job” after someone doxxes a witness actually be used against you in court? And how much does gleefully encouraging chaos come back to bite you when you’re the one on trial for murder? With jury selection looming and new charges possibly on the table, could this media circus derail the trial altogether? How much trouble can "just talking" really get you into? #KarenRead #TrueCrimeToday #WitnessIntimidation #HiddenKillersPodcast #Turtleboy #JusticeForJohnOKeefe #LegalDrama Let me know when you're ready to drop the next part. Poor Judgement Or Intent To Destroy Detractors, What Karen Read's Actions Reveal What kind of person allegedly leaks autopsy photos, doxxes witnesses, and then wonders why people aren't lining up to buy her a sympathy card? In this deep dive into the twisted saga surrounding Karen Read, retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke unpacks the bizarre and allegedly self-destructive relationship between Read and blogger "Turtleboy." With over 40 hours of recorded calls between them, it's less “strategic defense” and more “public therapy session meets content goldmine.” Dreeke offers psychological insight into how Read’s apparent need for external validation may have collided head-on with Turtleboy’s thirst for attention—resulting in a partnership that could be doing more harm than help. From the rabid loyalty of Read’s core followers (who apparently treat due process like an optional side dish) to the prosecution’s tightening strategy now that Proctor is offstage, we explore how all this could play with a jury already bombarded by chaos. And let’s not forget the bigger question: when does poor judgment stop being poor and start looking a lot like guilty? Is Karen Read’s alleged pattern of behavior simply a personality in free fall—or the roadmap to a conviction? #KarenRead #TrueCrimeToday #HiddenKillers #Turtleboy #CourtroomDrama #RobinDreeke #CrimeAndPsychology Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
