A question from one of you, the listening audience, “How do you get past your emotions when your husband was having a texting relationship with an old girlfriend he called up. He was telling her he loved her and wanted to meet her for lunch to get caught up. Then they dared each other for pictures of there bodies. He has repented and told me he is so sorry it was like a bad spirit took over him. We are working it out but since I have read some of the texts, and she even texted me awful things, how do I move on? She is not a nice person and that’s why it’s hard because I want nothing but the best for her. I forgive them, just having a hard time with emotions!”

SHOW NOTES

What is an emotional affair? An “emotional affair” is an affair between two people that mimics the closeness and emotional intimacy of an affair while never being physically consummated. An emotional affair is often colloquially referred to as an affair of the heart.

Galatians 5:22-23

I personally hate the term, because many times people feel justified in divorcing because the word “affair” is used.

First of all, your husband did not love that woman! He lusted or was infatuated for her, but never loved.

You never truly get “past” emotions, but you do move forward and experience healing. Only time can heal this kind of wound (but also reconciliation).

Let the details go, in other words, it is all bad and your details don’t make it any worse than someone else’s.

Forgiveness is a journey. We’ve got a great free ebook on forgiveness you can download. Just because you don’t “feel” better doesn’t mean you haven’t actually forgiven them yet.

Now, protect your relationship from this kind of thing happening again.

  1. Serve each other
  2. Spend time hanging out
  3. Repair hurt quickly
  4. Keep forgiving
  5. Put your hope in Christ and not each other

Also, don’t forget…

If you haven’t left a review yet in iTunes, don’t be shy, it’s easy to do and it really lets me know you’re listening (and others too). Click here.
