Better Call Saul – S3E4 – Sabrosito
At the beginning of “Sabrosito,” we get a glimpse of the past, as Hector makes a delivery to Don Elladio, the head of the cartel. This includes a duffel bag of cash and a bobble-head from his ice cream shop, The Winking Greek, named after the Don himself. Sadly for Hector, his gift is outshone by Bolsa, who brings a substantially larger sum from Los Pollos Hermanos. The scene is a reminder of the simmering feud between Gus and the Salamancas, which will surely be relevant in the episodes to come.
When next we find Gus, he is reacting to an encroachment by Hector on his Albuquerque location, demanding to use the Los Pollos Hermanos trucks to smuggle his product into the country. It would seem that for the moment, the disruption of the Salamanca supply route has blown up in Gus’s face, but a wry grin tips us off that the so-called “Chicken Man” may not be out of tricks.
Mike, meanwhile, is in the middle of an existential crisis following his successful strike against the Salamancas. And while he is as yet uninterested in further entanglements with Gus’s operation, he is willing to help Jimmy out with a little brotherly subterfuge.
Lastly, we have the matter of the impending hearing, during which Chuck hopes to cinch Jimmy’s disbarment by forcing his admission of guilt and making sure that the taped confession is played. What seems important is that Jimmy and Kim have confimed the continued importance of the tape to Chuck. Kim’s enigmatic “Bingo,” after a meeting where to all appearances her side is left at a disadvantage, hints that she and Jimmy have a plan in motion. Have they finally out-paced Chuck’s scheming?
