She Can Make - Episode 3 Show Notes
Welcome to She Can Make - A podcast making Canadian content, one stitch at a time.
We’re your hosts, Kate and Lindsey.
Today’s segments include:
- In the workroom
- Alterations
- Skills Lab
- A Review or Two
- Crafting with Kids
- And from the Mail Bag
Some of Kate’s knitting and spinning has been put on hold this week to get in some much-needed cycling time. Kate is getting ready for the Kawartha Lakes Classic Cycling Tour.
She is plugging along on the Jayla shawl by Tammy Gore that she talked about last time, and is about ? of the way through the first panel, very vanilla garter stitch initially, which is helping her fit knitting in when she's tired or distracted.
She has also booked the hotel and classes for her visit with her mom to the Woodstock Fleece Festival in October. They're going to take an natural indigo dying class.
Lindsey is still not fully unpacked, but has decided that it’s time to get sewing. She’s working on a favourite shirt pattern to get her started. McCalls M7191.
She has decided to try one with back yoke and flowing lace.
Alterations:Kate discusses the complications of dealing with husky hair when knitting and spinning. She offers a couple of solutions, and hints that Lindsey’s sewing skills might be able to help her out.
Lindsey discusses how her sewing room set up isn’t going as planned. She discusses what went wrong and why, and talks about how she’s actually happier with the outcome so far.
Skills Lab:Kate gives a great explanation of the differences between woolen and worsted yarns, including why they are different and the best ways to use them.
A Review or Two:Lindsey reviews Crochet Magazine: Autumn 2017 issue, available until October 2nd, 2017 from Chapters / Indigo for $8.
Crafting with Kids:The adventures with Miss O continue. Lindsey discusses the pros and cons of the felting machine (Sew Cool), and what she felt Miss O learned, and did not learn from the experience.
