On April 1, 2003, Canada enacted the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which replaced the existing Young Offenders Act. Also on that day, 14 year old Justin Morton murdered his classmate Eric Levack in the woods outside of their high school, immediately putting Canada’s new law to the test. This year marks a milestone in Eric’s story. It has been 15 years since Eric’s death. Being that he was just 14 years old when he was murdered, this year marks the year he has been gone longer than he was here.
