#9) How long should your resume be? | Just-ask-Chris MINISODE #1
Manage episode 217346212 series 2421188
This is...the Let’s Eat, Grandma podcast number 9 – this is Just-Ask-Chris Minisode #1.
We are going to take commonly asked job search questions, break them down, and give you the information as one in-depth answer.
Why a minisode? We wanted to give you another way to learn complex information. We take the complex information with a million different rules (like resume writing in the English language) and give you a way to digest it easily. Little resume snacks if you will.
We are doing this for those go getters who are hyper learners. So those who really want to take a moment in their life—walking to work, waiting in line at the doctor’s office, whatever—and pick something to learn. These episodes will be very SHORT. That is, around 5-10 minutes to make sure that you get a good answer as quickly as possible.
TOPIC:
In this podcast, you are going to learn the answer to one of the most commonly asked questions about resumes.
How long should it be?!
Why is this such a hot topic?
What are some example scenarios of a one-page resume vs. a two page resume?
The core concept: The resume should be as long as it needs to be — but short enough to remain interesting.
Please note: that there are a few industries and positions that would expect you to submit a longer resume. Three examples:
· Federal resumes that ask you about everything you did
· Academia. (Cover letters even)
· IT Consultant positions that want to look at detail of all your past work.
If you would like us to evaluate your resume and assess a proper length, please submit your resume to projects@letseatgrandma.com
