S2E9: The Shot
Manage episode 219768202 series 2093617
Our story begins in the 70s, with a young Bojack watching his hero Secretariat. The racehorse champion is giving an interview about our boys out in Vietnam fighting the good fight against the communists. Secretariat’s patriotic performance seems less than convincing - but it leaves an impression on young Bojack, who upon seeing his hero smoke, tries a cigarette from his mother’s purse. That does not end well.
Now in the present, something’s missing from Bojack’s Secretariat movie. Turtletaub has cut out some critical scenes and Bojack feels it’s messing with the story’s intended message. Defensive about his hero’s legacy, Bojack recruits Mr. Peanutbutter, Princess Caroline, Kelsey Jannings and character actress Margo Martindale to stage a heist in the Nixon library to get the most poignant shot of the film
