John's Book - Wind Beneath My Wings

In today’s final episode, We hear the story of what really brought down Air France flight 4590, the only Concorde ever to crash, and widely regarded as the end of the Concorde program.

The figurative and literal demise of Concorde is often referred to as a travesty, and not just to us aviation types. Businesspeople and wealthy globetrotters all were sad to see it go, the general populace of England And France lost an Icon of their countries abilities, and I think we can all agree that ending the program is akin to taking a giant metaphorical step backwards.

Unfortunately though, there’s nothing you and I can do to bring Concorde back, but I think it’s important that we all know the real story behind what happened that fateful day in July 2000, and why Concorde was pulled from service the way it was.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, it ran over a piece of metal, the metal pierced the fuel tank, it exploded, the end. And I’ll admit, that’s what I thought happened too, until more recently that I’m willing to admit. But today, John tells us the true story of how it all went down, and a little known secret about how close the doomed jet came to causing a second catastrophe unlike any the country had ever seen before.

I want to thank you for listening to my interviews with John, during the course of the week. And don’t worry, he’ll be back again.

If you have any feedback for me or John, please go to the website podcastingonaplane.com/contact and tell me what’s on your mind. My email address is brandon@podcastingonaplane.com and you can also contact me vie facebook, instagram, and Twitter.

And as usual, the show’s music was produced by Danijel Zambo.

At the end of the show today there are not any closing comments, I felt that John’s comments were enough of a bombshell upon which to end. So again I thank you for listening and subscribing, and without further ado, here’s the final chapter in Concorde week, the true story of the crash of Air France flight 4590.
