Don Burro has a long and storied history in Chihuahua, first as the city’s foremost rock venue, which shut down and was converted into a gay bar, and years later returned to its original form as a gritty live music venue. These days, playing the Don Burro stage is a right of passage for local bands trying to make it in the city’s developing music scene, and Oliver is the club’s manager, booker and an archivist of local lore. Our conversation with Oliver is exactly what you’d expect from a stalwart of the scene, full of vibrant storytelling, offering sober takes on today’s live music audiences and an empathetic curatorial vision towards emerging talent.
