Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com LONDON TULIP APPROVED BY PLANNERS Planners have approved the proposed Tulip, a 305-m-tall cultural attraction in downtown London (ELENET 762 and 770), the BBC recently reported. City of London Corp. said it was "truly unique" and would help increase the number of visitors at the Square Mile. They also contended that any harm done by its view blocking or ostentatiousness would be "less than substantial" and outweighed by the "benefits" of the proposal. However, London Mayor Sadiq Khan still has to sign off, and Greater London Authority planners have 14 days to respond. Khan has “significant concerns with the design approach” and design, he wrote in January. The authority previously advised the Tulip failed to follow the London Plan, BBC also reported. If approved, the Foster + Partners-designed, Jacob J. Safra-owned tower (like the Gherkin) would be built at 20 Bury Street beside the Gherkin.
