×Listen in on our guest speaker Pastor Hau Liu. We are Easter people living in a Good Friday world
Listen in to Pastor Edwins Easter message
Hey family, the next few days are an amazing opportunity to invite your friends to church. First, this Sunday, April 13, is Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus riding into Jerusalem to be greeted by crowds cheering and waving palms. Next will be Good Friday, April 18, when you will experience a truly special service like none we have ever done before, followed by a delicious catered meal. (Please reserve your spots by clicking on this link!) And then, of course, Sunday April 20 is Easter itself, Resurrection Sunday, the holiest day on the Christian calendar. There will be a special Easter service for kids 5-12 as well. Sunday services start at 10 a.m. On Good Friday, the doors will open at 5:30 and service begins at 6, with dinner to follow. I cannot stress how important it is to invite others. Souls matter, and eternal souls matter. Your friends are looking for hope. In this very crazy world, where politics and finances and everything else seem so wild right now, we find our hope in Christ. So please put these dates down and invite your friends. --Edwin…
The humility of God Hey family, this Sunday our visiting speaker, Brad Franklin, will continue our series called The Humility of God. We'll look especially at Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and learn how we can actually live out the same humility that characterized Jesus' own life. Does that seem impossible to you? If you want to get a jump on the conversation, read Matthew 5:1-12. We meet at 10 a.m. at 360 Schermerhorn St. Please invite a friend. Easter is coming up and this is one of the best times of year to invite people into our church family. Kids' Church starts at 10 a.m. as well. --Edwin…
Listen up as special guest speaker Pastor Brad Franklin teaches about the humil of God
Hey family, this Sunday, we have a wonderful service planned as we learn how to grow in the Christian faith. This is an important topic because many of us can be in Christ and yet find ourselves stagnant in our Christian growth. This gives us an opportunity to figure out not only how to grow but also to recognize that growth is something that God does in us and through us. See you at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn St. Announcement: Congregational meeting, Sunday March 30, immediately after service. It’s important that we get together on a regular basis in order to know what’s going on in this new family in Jesus that we’re connected to at Next Step Community Church. On Sunday, March 30, immediately after service, we will provide updates, share some news, and give opportunities for you to get involved in ministry. We would love it if you will attend. --Edwin…
family, Pastor Edwin here—first of all, you need to know that on Sunday the roads will be crowded with people running the NYC Half Marathon, so take public transportation to get to church. And now for the real important part of this message! In our latest series we’ve been talking about our identities—who we are now that we believe in Christ. As we’ve said before, the most important thing about you is what you think about God. The second most important thing is what you think about yourself. There’s no need to struggle with a wrong identity that was bestowed upon us early in our lives and simply does not fit anymore. I look forward to talking more about this on Sunday. We meet at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids ages 5-12 have their own service starting 10 a.m. as well. See you there,…

Hey family, before we start, I just want you to know that there are a lot of different ways that we’re growing together in our church this year. We have Bible studies, service opportunities, and even a salsa class coming up! So get plugged in on Sundays and start growing. The most important thing in the world is what you think about God. The second most important is what you think about yourself. Many of us grew up in families who instilled in us an identity that no longer matches who we are in Christ. Perhaps it is was through verbal abuse, physical abuse, or psychological abuse. Or maybe you just heard from the world this idea that you couldn’t be free, grow healthy, or move forward with what God has called you to do. This week is the second part of our IDENTITY series. We’re going to look at the scriptures and see what God says about us--and how that changes everything, in every aspect of our lives. We meet at 10 a.m. on Sundays, 360 Schermerhorn St. Bring a friend! Kids Church for ages 5-12 also starts at 10.…
Hey family, last week was so important, as we talked about finding our identity in Christ through Ephesians chapter 1. We will pick up with that message, but this Sunday I'm happy to tell you that Pastor John Fils-Aime will be speaking the word of God. We meet at 10 a.m. Sundays, 360 Schermerhorn St., and kids' church meets for children ages 5-12 will meet at 10 also. --Edwin Announcements: Join us for a 13-week study on what it means to be a Christian. You can purchase the GROWING IN CHRIST booklet after service this Sunday, and we meet by Zoom on Mondays at 6:30.…
Hey family, it's important to be a church that does life together, from learning to fun! Two opportunities are starting soon that will be a great opportunity to meet new people and to grow in being a Christian. First, we're starting a Zoom Bible study that EVERYONE is invited to join. It's called Growing in Christ, and it's a great way to develop habits of Bible study and learning scripture. You can buy the class book after service on Sunday (only $7). The class starts Monday at 6:30 on Zoom. Second, did you ever want to learn salsa dancing? Now's your chance! We'll be announcing the details soon. I look forward to seeing you at service Sunday! We meet at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn St. in downtown Brooklyn. Kids' Church for ages 5-12 also starts at 10. --Edwin…
Listen in as Pastor Edwin discusses how we are new in Christ
family, join us this Sunday as we hear what Jesus has to say about what matters most. Pastor Gus Rodriguez will speak this week on how often we give our best to things that can be overwhelming. However, Jesus has a clear command about what matters most. Join us at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn. IgNite Kidz church starts at 10 a.m. as well for children ages 5-12. --Edwin…
Hey family, our scripture this Sunday will be from Luke chapter 18, verses 18-30. Jesus is speaking to a young man who loves God deeply and has kept all the commandments--but refuses to give up one thing. Please join us this Sunday as Pastor Hau Liu from Hope Church NYC speaks on this important topic. We meet at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn St. in Brooklyn. Children's church starts at 10 a.m. as well. --Edwin…
Hey family, one of the things I want to do this January is lay out the year and where we're going. I want us to be focused on health. Healthy growth in Christ and healthy relating with others in our church, as well as a healthy connection with those outside of our church. We have an opportunity to grow in love with Jesus and with one another, and we want to take very intentional steps toward this. So let's start this Sunday to make 2025 one of those years where things deeply change in our hearts and also in our relationships. Bring a friend! I look forward to seeing you at 360 Schermerhorn St. Our service starts at 10 a.m., and so does IgNite Kidz for children ages 5-12. See you then! --Edwin…
Hey family, we are so pleased this Sunday to welcome Dr. Steven Smith as our guest speaker. He'll be speaking a message of deliverance for all of us. In the Book of Exodus, we learned that God used the struggles of the Israelites to bring them to himself. He freed them from slavery and guided them through the trackless desert on their way to the promised land. Just like the Israelites, we face struggles in our own lives. How does God use those struggles to deliver us? Come Sunday at 10 a.m. to be enlightened! We meet at 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids' Church also starts at 10 a.m., so please bring your family! --Edwin…

Our inside lives matter to God Hey family, we'll start this new year with a look at how important it is to examine our inside lives. We might work very hard to make sure others see a confident, capable person on the outside... but if we don't examine deep inside ourselves, we might get tripped up by unacknowledged anger, fear, or other emotions. Psalm 139 talks about how God knows us completely, all the way through, and how He is much more concerned what's going on with our hearts than what we show on the outside. Please join us at 10 a.m. on Sunday, 360 Schermerhorn St., and bring a friend to start the new year right. IgNite Kidz children's church for ages 5-12 starts at 10 a.m. as well. --Edwin…
Hey family, is there a friend you can invite to our Christmas service this Sunday? The holidays can be lonely for those with no family nearby--or even no family at all. Jesus came to earth in order to seek and save the lost. This Sunday, let's introduce him to someone new when we come together as part of the family of God. We meet at 10 a.m. at 360 Schermerhorn St…
Hey family, we have been celebrating the season of Advent with a series called LIGHT OF THE WORLD. This Sunday we continue to talk about what it means that Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost. Hey family, in our new series LIGHT OF THE WORLD, we're looking at what it means that light came into the world 2,000 years ago during Advent, when God entered into humanity in the flesh and made a way for us to have relationship with him. This week we're going to look at how the darkness in us squints at the light of Christ and maybe even wants to run away from it. It's a great time to examine our own hearts and even invite a friend who has been struggling with God. Join us at 360 Schermerhorn St. Service starts at 10 a.m., and so does iGnite Kidz for children ages 5-12. --Edwin…
Subject line: It's nearly Christmas Hey family, churches around the world are beginning to celebrate the season of Advent. Advent means "arrival," and it means the start of an event or the arrival of a person. Join us tomorrow, Dec. 1, as Pastor Edwin explains more about Advent and leading us in learning about this time of hope, love, joy and peace. We meet at 10 a.m. at 360 Schermerhorn St. Our iGnite Kidz children's church for ages 5-12 also starts at 10. We hope to see you there.…

Hey family, often when we come up against something that makes us feel powerless or out of control, we focus on addressing that feeling rather than the thing that makes us feel that way. We try to kill the pain but not the sickness. What is going to end up supreme when we confront these insurmountable challenges? Each of us has a primary thing that our hopes and dreams are wrapped up in. For some of us, we think that if we win the lottery, that will be the solution to everything. For others, it's if we get into a relationship, that will be the solution to everything. Or if we just had better health. Or if... There are a million "things" it might be. In our series SUPREME, we've been arguing how the greatest thing we can give to our lives is Jesus. Of course, many people would agree. But... what would it really look like to see Christ SUPREME in every area of our lives? That's what we'll talk about this Sunday. Hey family, throughout this series we've learned some truths about work. Some of us view work as gross, a necessary evil to be endured. Others view work as God--the thing that we pour ourselves into and get our identify from. The truth is, work is worship, an opportunity to praise God with the gifts he's given us and thank him for the place he's given us to use them. This week we're going to look at another aspect of work that is actually one of the most important commands that God has ever given. That command is to stop work and take a day of rest, or as the Bible calls it, sabbath. The Sabbath is a fundamental part of our lives. It's a reminder of the work that God has already done and a way to hear him amid the hustle and bustle of life. I hope to see you, and bring a friend! Doe God care about how we spend out time?
Hey family, last week we started a brand-new series called “Me at Work.” The point of the series to recognize that God has a purpose for whatever work we do in our lives. Over the next few weeks we’ll be talking about some important questions that we need to answer as Christ-followers. Like: What’s the purpose of work? What does work look like when we have bosses who are asking us to compromise our values? How do I work in an environment where I feel mistreated? So I’m hoping to see you for the rest of this series, I think it’s going to be a life-changing experience. I love God, but I really messed up this time. Hey family, a healthy congregation learns how to deal with sin and not to suppress or hide it. So the question is, how do you deal with sin in your life if you love God? Because even when that’s the case, the fact is that we *will* sin, we will fall short, and so there needs to be a healthy, faith-building way to address our shame, our guilt, our sin, after we’ve blown it. The psalm we’ll be studying this week deals with this in the most powerful way. The writer of Psalm 19 asks questions and declares truths because of who God is. This is what we’ll talk about on Sunday as we continue our series, “Summer in the Psalms.” In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. Please come this Sunday as we grow together, and bring a friend! 10 a.m. on Sunday, 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids’ Church starts at 10 as well, for ages 5-12. Don’t come to Sunday service!?! Hey Family, as you know, many people have gotten into the habit of thinking that watching a person preach on a screen is sufficient for our spiritual nourishment. Because I love you, I want to say some important things that we all need to hear. I want you to know that growing toward spiritual maturity is NOT about getting on a screen and listening to some genius explain what he learned while reading God’s word. Rather, here at Next Step Community Church, we believe that the Sunday service should be a reflection of the Christian life. Therefore, we’ve created various components that go into that: silence, singing, serving and being served, scripture reading, communion, testifying and confession, prayer and applying God’s word. In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. I’m going to be speaking to you about that throughout the summer. Please come this Sunday as we grow together. Hey Family, we're in the last week of our series about identifying the idols of our hearts and the ways in which we can address them. Tomorrow we're going to talk about how God does his healing work through our repentance and faith. This is an important message, because we all need to be reminded that sometimes when we look in the mirror we don't see who God says we are.
