The purpose of the Sport Experience Show is to help you evolve the experiences you provide in your sport, and progress with the influence we can have in today’s ever-changing world. And so I’m really pleased to share this chat with Adam Bishop from Athletics Australia, a brilliant example of someone who is thinking differently about how we engage with our audiences, how we can grow within a sport, but at the same time embrace the wider active world and the opportunities that can bring. And while we are looking at experiences across all the layers of the sport and physical activity, this series is focused on the active consumer, the participant, and how we can create a more active world, together - to get more people more active and more often – and this show is focused on our kids - because we know that a more active world is a better world for them, for many reasons. Adam takes us thru the process of a recent success story, in the 'Weetbix Active Bands', which have been hugely popular and wildly oversubscribed, and success behind the scenes, providing proof that if we work differently, we can engage with audiences in more relevant ways in today’s world. And one thing that comes out strongly for me in this discussion was this ability to think differently, becoming a start-up within a traditional sports organisation, and how Adam and his team of collaborators have been making positive change happen, by creating an environment where failure may occur, because that then allows your team the ability to grow. So please do listen in to hear why Adam has taken on this challenge in his role, how he is graciously sharing what they have learned, and how you might be able to apply some of the thinking to have more success in your work. And I do hope you can take some ideas away to engage your people, more meaningfully, more often, and for longer, as you design and deliver your experiences. + if we can help you design or redesign your active experiences, events, programs, or sessions, please touch base at andrew@experiencedesign.global as I’d love to hear about the experiences you are creating – and how we might create a more active world together. ++ more SXD ideas & free tools >>> sportexperiencedesign.com…
We thought this Event Show would be so valuable and interesting to our Sport Experience Design community, we wanted to share this with you here. And in this new series of the Event Show we were lucky to speak with leaders in the world of major events, as we enter an exciting window of opportunity across our industry. The purpose of the show is to give a voice to our industry, to hear from influential leaders as to how they are going about their work, and so we can take things away and apply it in our world. So in this chat, I’m joined by a popular figure in our industry, who has been heavily involved in an event most of us will know. Karen Clydesdale is 'Head of Customer Experience and Customer Relationship Management’ at Tennis Australia, leading a team that has been producing amazing things at the Australian Open, and also across the many events and experiences that they provide. This is an extremely interesting chat as Karen has been leading the way with many new ways of working, how experiences are designed and delivered, and how to keep evolving what they do. We cover the importance of ‘the experience’, and having a very strong vision, strategic pillars and guiding principles to guide what you are focusing on. We also talk about the ongoing evolution of the Aus Open, in providing experiences for different groups of people, the customers, the fans/patrons, the players, participants, and partners, and also the workforce - and why that is important. We even touch on all the levels of value, for before, during and after an event, with the critical physical and digital interactions. We also learn how Karen’s team measure progress and applies the insights from these measures. We also hear some of Karen's valuable personal experiences, including some really practical and important tips and tricks we can all use! So there is so much to take away from this chat, from a strategic level, through to the day-to-day ways of working. Karen has a wealth of experience and is using that to make a real difference in the experiences she provides. We do hope you enjoy the Show, and as always please drop me a line at andrew@andrewoloughlin.com to see if I can help you with the design or redesign of your event experiences, or in developing the strategy that will make your event, the most valuable experience it can be, for your audiences, and for you. But for now please enjoy this special show, with the amazing Karen Clydesdale from Tennis Australia… For more info please jump on to Tennis.com.au andrewoloughlin.com And some more of the Event Show... https://www.andrewoloughlin.com/the-event-show-podcast…
The purpose of the Sport Experience Show is to help you harness the power of the experiences you provide in your sport, and so I’m really pleased to share this chat with Michaela Fellner, the founder of Bodhi & RIDE, a brilliant example of someone who is building a community through the power of the experience. And we are focused on the experience as while we all have a lot of things to achieve, and lots of ways to do it, THE EXPERIENCE you provide will ultimately decide whether people want to sign up and show up, or not. While the 'SX Show' is about experiences across all the layers of the sport and physical activity industry, this series is focused on the active consumer, the participant, and how we can create a more active world, together - to get more people more active more often - because we know that a more active world is a better world, for many reasons. Personally, one thing that comes out strongly for me in this discussion was the ability to connect with people by changing a typical experience and creating an environment that will connect with your people, connect to each other, and motivate them to keep signing up and showing up again, and again. So I do hope you can take some ideas away to help you in your work, and apply as you design and deliver your experiences. But for now, please tune in AND get down for a RIDE! https://bodhiandride.com.au + if we can help you design or redesign your active experiences, events, programs, or sessions, please touch base at andrew@experiencedesign.global as I’d love to hear about the experiences you are creating – and how we might create a more active world together. ++ more SXD ideas & free tools >>> sportexperiencedesign.com…

As you will hear there is so much knowledge and really actionable examples that Erica shares, so this is a great chance to explore even more deeply the role, and the value ‘the experience’ might play in your sports, the programs, events, and each interaction that you have, so that people keeping signing up and showing up again, and again. The purpose of this show is to understand how we can all provide even more influential experiences in sport – as I think we all appreciate the importance of the experience you offer, to get more people, more active, more often. We are excited to share this discussion that I had with a true world-leading expert in all aspects of sport – and a pioneer in sport experience design - Professor Daniel Funk. Daniel is a prodigious professor, based at Temple University in the USA, he has published over 130 academic papers, and his 4 books have been essential reading for many students and practitioners across our industry. So much knowledge has been shared and applied that I suspect it is likely Daniel’s research has featured in your sports management education, or the findings he has been involved with may have influenced the work you are involved with in some way. And this show is a great chance to explore even more deeply the role and the value that ‘the experience’ plays in sport – for the fans, for the active participants, and for us as providers. We all know how influential experiences can be in sport, and the purpose of this show is to understand how we can all provide even more influential experiences – speaking with the world-leading advisors, researchers and thought leaders - giving you some insights to make great decisions, and to help you amplify the value of your work. So we do hope this discussion provides you with some meaningful information to help you design or redesign your fan and participants experiences, so that they keep signing up and showing up again, and again. I’m really pleased to be able to share this discussion with you that I had with Tim Oberg, the man who brought what has become a global success story, parkrun, to this part of the world. This is a great opportunity to understand the experience that parkrun provides, and how it goes about providing it. A participant experience which ultimately has had an immense influence on many people, influencing more people to sign up and show up again, and again, week after week until they become evangelists for parkrun, and start to bring others people with them - all of which has been a big part of the success of parkrun. So, I do hope you can follow these steps on a parkrunners journey and apply them to your experiences. Our 'Sport Experience' show is speaking with some of the world’s leading experts, giving us some inspiration and relevant information to use in designing experiences that will capture the hearts and minds of our audiences. So it was invaluable (and a lot of fun) talking to James Wallman, founder of the incredible World Experience Organisation (WXO), plus a best-selling author, entrepreneur, and futurist exploring all there is around the role, and value of experiences in our lives. James works with some big brands, advises governments, and so this is a great opportunity for us to tap into his knowledge of how experiences influence our lives. I hope you can walk away with some brilliant tips or thought-providing thought starters... as to how we can design EVEN MORE influential experiences within our sports (and perhaps how you can use this in your life!). We do hope this chat helps you create more valuable and meaningful experiences.
