In·ner child

/ˈinərˌCHīld/

noun

a person's supposed original or true self, especially when concealed by childhood experiences

BOOK EXCERPT

During Lent, instead of the traditional practice of giving

something up, I chose to focus on healing—a personal repair

project of sorts. The subject of this project was my inner

child, who had been quietly calling out to me during moments

of stillness. My approach to reconnect with the younger me

involved daily conversations, powered by affirmations. As a

humorous twist and a minor inconvenience to my husband, I

scribbled these affirmations on our bathroom mirror. Each

morning, I recited seven affirmations.
