With special guest Jeff Fong, Anna and Derek discuss why we don't have silly movies anymore, how in the world to make a movie work with three directors and so much more during their chat of the Abrahams-Zucker-Zucker comedic masterpiece Airplane! (1980).

Anna Keizer and Derek Dehanke are the co-hosts of ‘80s Movie Montage. The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there’s that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover.
Some say Jeff Fong sprouted out of the womb with a tennis racket in his left hand and a small roll of black and white film in his right… but this is not certain. Others believe Jeff sat up and asked for a notepad to immediately begin writing the stories that had been rattling around in his brain for the past 9 months, but many think this is silly and potentially untrue. One fact we believe comes from truth is that the next 37 years were spent honing his craft of screenwriting and directing in order to tell the stories that mean the world to him while also creating better representation for his Asian American half, along with anyone he believes is underrepresented in the media. Today, one might find Jeff working with his production company in Sacramento, California, "The Film Squad," writing his next feature script, pitching said to get funding, or gearing up to shop his ideas around Los Angeles to gain interest. He hopes to keep telling his silly stories until the days of old and senile.
