When the judge bangs that gavel to announce guilt or innocence, it’s usually not much that can be done. Whether being judged by a jury of 12 or by a judge himself, guilt is determined by others. But what is life like when you live with guilt imposed on yourself by yourself? How heavy is the load we sometimes carry that we probably should have put down years ago?
Erykah Badu once warned in her hit song Bag Lady “you gon’ hurt your back dragging’ all them bags like that”. And this advice is applicable to all. Some of the baggage we carry thru life isn’t ours to own. But after so many years, the lines are blurred and at some point must be redrawn.
As a victim of sexual abuse, the co-hostess shares her story of guilt, revelation and the journey to healing as she has learned to lay the burdens caused by other on their own lap. But what family history makes it more acceptable to deal with secrets than it is to cut ties with those who cause harm? When will society realize the trauma caused by hiding dirty laundry?
