And now, Justin Poulin with this month’s Expert… Latifah Jackson, Supplier Diversity Manager at University Health Topic: The importance of supplier diversity for supply chain, community involvement and economic impact - Intro to Latifah (local government experience) - Smaller businesses can be a big part of your resiliency planning * During the pandemic they were able to pivot quickly - Community Involvement * Feeling a responsibility to the community, not simply by providing care but helping to support the businesses to ensure the community can afford good health insurance * Using the funding that is coming from our community and putting it back into the community - Economic Impact * Lessons from local government * It may make sense to take a 2% increase to keep it local for all of the reasons above - Branding/Marketing Impact * Investing in the community helps increase brand value and build positive perception from your consumers * This can help with fund raising efforts and the perception of tax increases to support higher quality care - Success Stories * Women’s/Children’s Towers with 2 concessions stands – met with suppliers in the community and walked them through the process and now the business is thriving (Latifah invested her time and experience/knowledge into the local business) * Saved $500k with a local reseller that represents innovative clinical products (myth busting – you are not always going to spend more with a local supplier)
