Do you shutdown mid-sex? Does sex make you checkout from your body, feel the need to isolate or get angry and defensive for no apparent reason? I know this kind of thing can feel so frustrating, confusing and even scary because it feels like it disrupts your whole life and relationship and appears to come from no where with no warning. The feeling of dreading sex for fear of one of these freakouts, even though you long for the connection with your partner is heartbreaking. I used to worry if I would ever be able to have normal, happy, fun sex. "Why can't it just be easy?!" I would always lament. I would worry it was hurting my partners or making them think I wasn't into them. I wanted nothing more that to be able to relax and feel fearless in my sexuality. I hope this episode will help you to understand you're not alone in these feelings and there are ways to soften around these reactions and eventually integrate them! Acceptance and self-kindness are the places to start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you experience this type of response during sex and feel severely overwhelmed by it, you may benefit from speaking with a mental health professional or seeking trauma coaching around this. I am not a certified trauma coach. I am a Trauma-Aware Certified Sexuality and Intimacy Coach practicing a trauma-sensitive approach to working with sexuality. Many of my methods and much of my knowledge come from a long personal journey of trauma healing in an eclectic array of modalities. If you enjoy this episode, you can download my free e-book on my website: www.MelindaReaves.com It offers many more insights into how to work with the sexual trauma you may carry in a conscious and loving way that will also allow you to experience deep connection with yourself, and your partner as well as really expansive and soul-fulfilling pleasure.
