The Serpent Queen is a drama television series based on the history of the life of Catherine de' Medici, the 16th century Queen of France and mother-in-law of Mary Queen of Scots - hence its involvement with Tudor history. Catherine is portrayedd by actress Samantha Morton.

The series was created by Justin Haythe and is based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda.
