A light bulb in our head was recently turned on and it is very bright. Along with all of our friends and family on social media platforms Face Book and Twitter, we connect through our interaction and exchange of our life stories, opinions and reflections about who we are, what we do and what matters most in our lives. More than often, we don’t agree and in some instances our disagreement lacks an acceptable level of civility. This divide seems to have widened since the horrific 9/11 tragedies; the Presidential elections of 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. Our nation is increasingly divided primarily over our differences of opinions and beliefs. We have come to realize that our disagreements can be more clearly mediated when our reflections are viewed through the lens of our most common attributes as American Citizens. Simply stated, as proclaimed in The Declaration of Independence “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men (and women) are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Expressing thoughts and opinions through this powerful lens is an opportunity for all of us to be more considerate of each other because we are all “endowed with certain unalienable rights” that by definition cannot be denied our nullified simply because of differences. This is our new blog and podcast from your favorite twins, Ronald and Donald Brookins. We call it, “America’s Community Voices.” It is our hope that we build a bridge to what our great President Abraham Lincoln called a “more perfect union.” We will do so in terms of our collective unalienable rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
