For the past three decades, Don Dahler has been a fixture on national network news covering the world's biggest stories-global wars, presidential elections, school shootings, natural disasters. Now, drawn from the journals he kept for most of his life, Don charts his unlikely rise from a teenage runaway to an award-winning correspondent and anchor in SOUVENIRS FROM AN ABSURD LIFE (Post Hill Press, February 25, 2025). As a young man, chance encounters with baseball idol Mickey Mantle and legendary sports broadcaster Dick Enberg changed the trajectory of Don's life. Rejecting the prospects of a dim, boring, unfulfilling future, he set out to tell stories that mattered. He worked his way up from local TV stations in Texas and North Carolina and went on to cover the most important stories of the times for Fox News, CNBC, ABC News, and CBS News, reporting from more than 120 countries and often living abroad for months at a time. Don was the first network correspondent to report live from the scene on 9/11 and reported extensively from Afghanistan and Iraq in the months and years that followed. As a documentary filmmaker he traveled to Calcutta, Johannesburg, Taipei, and thousands of places in between. He's interviewed Nobel Prize recipients, future presidents, Olympic champions, and countless movie stars. He's been shot (twice), had lions stalk outside his tent in Africa, tamed a wild fruit bat, and flown in an ultralight airplane over the heads of elephants. These and more incredible adventures are collected in SOUVENIRS FROM AN ABSURD LIFE, a memoir that is full of humor, heart, and grit-and also nine-lives-level luck and good timing. Don's insider's account of the highly competitive world of network news also revisits a bygone era of broadcast journalism-one with robust budgets and an appetite for foreign reporting. And he reveals which stars aren't who they pretend to be, how his reporting on 9/11 was co-opted by conspiracy theorists, and what goes on behind the scenes of the country's powerful media channels.

Plus…is it best to give your employer a two week notice? I’m Arroe… I am a daily writer. A silent wolf. I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate. I call it The Daily Mess. A chronological walk through an everyday world. Yes, it’s my morning writing. As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later. When a subject arrives, I dig in. It’s still keeping a journal! In Legends and Soles , Sonny Vaccaro, in collaboration with 11-time Emmy-award winner and six-time New York Times bestselling author Armen Keteyian, peels back the layers of sensational media stories and headlines, providing an unvarnished look at his pivotal role not only in Michael Jordan's ascent as arguably the world's most famous-and richest-athlete, but Vaccaro's other consequential relationships, including those with Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady. He reflects on the crushing disappointments, as well, detailing the shocking eleventh hour betrayal by Adidas that led to the loss of a then-18-year-old phenom, LeBron James. He describes reaching a career-defining "inflection point" where he abandoned the shoe industry entirely to pursue his advocacy of athlete's rights bringing readers into the tense, landscape-altering nine-year drama behind the O'Bannon federal lawsuit that changed the face of college sports.Considered basketball's ultimate insider, Vaccaro remains a formidable, passionate voice in the worlds of sports marketing and collegiate sports. His visionary promotional innovations-beginning with the signing of college coaches to Nike endorsement deals followed by the signing of Jordan, revolutionized sports marketing. An outspoken advocate for the rights of athletes, he was the catalyst behind the landmark Supreme Court decision giving control of Name/Image/Likeness (NIL) rights to tens of thousands of college athletes, recently affirmed by the historic $2.8 billion settlement by the NCAA and major conferences opening the door to fair compensation for the real stars-the athletes themselves. Recently he was the central character in the hit movie Air , directed by Ben Affleck and starring Matt Damon as Sonny, exploring a four-month snapshot of his extraordinary eight-decade life. Vaccaro, still an affable and outspoken personality, resides on the West Coast with his wife, Pam. "There have been literally thousands of stories written and broadcast about me over the years," said Vaccaro, "but this time the story is being told by the only person capable of setting the record straight-about Michael, getting blindsided when Phil Knight fired me, my battles with the NCAA, the seminal O'Bannon lawsuit, and many other personal revelations even my closest friends don't know. And I've got the documents to back up every last word." This memoir is far from a recounting of events; rather it's the never-before-told journey of a middle-class kid from a small steel town in western Pennsylvania who rose to the top of a mountain-a rich, revealing tapestry of relationships, triumphs, and challenges through the world of sports, business, and culture told by a man at the epicenter of it all, at Nike and beyond. With a 16-page photo insert illuminating some of Vaccaro's most treasured career memories, Legends and Soles is the long-awaited memoir of a giant of American sports. House of David tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise. Michael Iskander was cast as David following a four-month international search and is fresh off his role in the Tony Award-winning musical, Kimberly Akimbo. House of David also stars Ali Suliman (Jack Ryan, Arthur the King) as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer (Angels And Demons, Man Of Steel) as Queen Ahinoam and Saul’s trusted wife, Stephen Lang (Avatar: The Way of Water, Don’t Breathe) as Samuel, and Martyn Ford (Mortal Kombat 2, The Sandman) as Goliath. Most of us have seen news reports about workplace surveillance, cyberstalking, ransomware attacks, and facial recognition and ignore them willfully, but know deep down that our privacy is disappearing in the face of wondrous technological marvels. But it is never too late to protect your own privacy, even for those who don’t want to live off the grid without cell phones or internet access. Written in blunt jargon-free prose, ON PRIVACY: Twenty Lessons to Live By (Workman Publishing; March 4, 2025; $20 Hardcover) by Lawrence Cappello defines today's privacy landscape while also reminding readers of the joys of keeping things to ourselves. Authored by an award-winning professor of U.S. legal & constitutional history and a certified information privacy professional (CIPP/US & CIPM) ON PRIVACY helps readers understand and explains clearly why privacy matters and explains in brief digestible chapters how you can better protect your privacy while still enjoying the pleasures and conveniences of the modern world, for example: Worried about your private information being shared on the internet? All of your devices have privacy settings. Take five minutes to learn how to use them. A few quick adjustments can make a real difference in protecting your personal information. When locking your phone, go with an old-fashioned four- or six-digit passcode over biometrics like Face ID and fingerprint readers. It’s getting easier to replicate faces and thumbprints. It remains harder to hack someone’s brain. What about your online history and reputation? The idea of retaking control over your personal data may feel overwhelming, but it’s easier than you think. For a fee, online reputation management professionals will scour the internet on your behalf to identify who has your information, get it deleted or corrected, and continue monitoring your online persona as new items pop up. It’s called ORM (online reputation management). Look it up and see if it’s a fit for you. What about protecting your friends’ and loved ones’ privacy?Be a privacy-conscious friend on social media. Don’t tag people in photos or share their location without their permission. Nor should you post personal information they’ve shared with you—like a pregnancy, or a new job, or a major new purchase—without their permission. Treat their privacy like it’s your own and they’ll likely do the same for you. Starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan, THE PENGUIN LESSONS is a poignant dramedy inspired by a true story, set against the backdrop of Argentina's political turmoil in 1976. Tom (Coogan), a disillusioned Englishman, arrives in Buenos Aires to teach at a prestigious boarding school, expecting an easy experience. But as the city spirals into crisis, and his students remain unteachable, Tom's life takes an unexpected turn when he rescues an oil-slicked penguin from a nearby beach. The bird's surprising loyalty and unique presence forces Tom to confront his own repressed past and awaken to the responsibilities of both personal and political change. Directed by Peter Cattaneo (THE FULL MONTY, MILITARY WIVES), this heartwarming film shows how even the most unlikely connections can spark profound change and self-discovery. Dead Groove began as a pandemic collaboration between drummer Fred Aching and bassist/vocalist Holly West has evolved into one of the scene's most promising acts. The band, completed by guitarist Cesar "Cags" Salaverry, brings together decades of professional experience, including West's current role with Zepparella, Salaverry with the Peruvian band Mauser, and Aching's performances with Kings of Thrash alongside David Ellefson, Powerflo and Bullet Boys. The successor to the band’s acclaimed self-titled debut album, Rubicon represents a significant evolution in Dead Groove's musical journey. The album's title, referencing the historic point of no return, perfectly captures the band's commitment to pushing their sonic boundaries - Fred the band describe it as presenting “a more polished iteration of Dead Groove's signature sound while maintaining the raw energy fans have come to expect.” Their interpretation of Motörhead's "Ace of Spades" demonstrates Dead Groove's artistic vision. By deliberately slowing the tempo and incorporating their characteristic groove, the band has created a fresh interpretation that both honors the original and establishes their unique musical identity.
