When it comes to animal welfare, small details like lighting can influence how birds behave and perform. Asian Agribiz quizzed Kim Hendrix, Product Manager of Hato Agricultural Lighting, about professional lighting for poultry and learned that:

1) Birds perceive light differently from humans, and farmers must put themselves inside the barn to understand this and their birds.

2) Though conventional fluorescent lights may seem cost-effective, they are not recommended because their flickering may adversely affect the birds.

3) In the long run, conventional lighting can lead to negative behavior like pecking or fighting and disrupted feed/water intake, hurting performance.

4) Professional lighting is designed for bird welfare and enhances bird behavior and performance, improving their ROI.

5) Professional lighting can be adapted according to stages, controlled properly, and is energy efficient, offering cost-savings.
