Astrologer Demetra George describes how the planets were named while taking us back into ancient Babylonia and then Greece. She describes the historical context in which the visible planets were named and how well they matched the ancient mythology.
Next we discuss the naming of the modern planets and the very different circumstances in which astronomers, now practicing their work mainly separately from astrologers, found themselves in the position of naming the newly discovered planetary bodies, including the asteroids.
We end with reflections on the potentially mystical implications as planetary bodies seem to be named appropriately for the dynamics astrologers observe here on Earth.
