In this Podcast I’m bringing back James Demers to talk about Trans 101. A topic that I think is very important. The similarities and struggles that this community is facing is very close to home. I grew up in the 80’s and our biggest issues were basic human rights, to get married, to have children etc. It was a long hard road. Many people had their lives threatened and lost their jobs, including myself. It may seem like some things haven't changed but bullying is still, unbelievably a huge problem.
Same-sex marriage was recongnized in 2005 and for me it was a huge turning point. The 80’s were hard in a lot of ways and the similarities I see within the trans community now, are bothersome. Lack of understanding, inappropriate language, discrimination and safety. Never mind the whole bathroom thing.
So this interview seems ultra important right now. The thing that really bothers me is that I am ignorant to a lot of things that I feel I should know. So bringing James on board to give us this educational talk feels like the right thing to do. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
My biggest burning question is, of course “Are trans people Aliens?” apparently not but...there are similarities.
I hope this Podcast is as helpful to you as it was to me. Enjoy.
