Welcome to Be True, Be Happy, Be Yourself show, I'm Yuki Miyaki. In this episode, I will be sharing with you about my dream,

Do you have a dream? I believe that everyone has written such essays countless times when they were young, “My dream is to be a pilot, a doctor, an engineer, etc.”.

Like many, I too had dreams when I was a kid but as soon as I stepped into society, I became more practical. I wanted to earn a lot of money and become a boss, as I felt that if I were to make a fortune, my family would be happy.

However, gradually I realized that this was not what I wanted, I began to feel lost about the word “DREAM”. I started to wonder about the purpose of having a dream?

It was not until I was 28 years old, when I encountered a life threatening health condition. It was a turning point in my life as I finally found my dream.

At the age of 28 after giving birth to three lovely children, I experienced signs of pregnancy and thought I was pregnant again.

I went for a check up and upon the doctor’s diagnosis, I was told that I had Hydatidiform Mole. These moles can be cured as long as they are treated early, but If it is a malignant mole, it may eventually evolve into cancer. Yes, it is cancer! When I heard the news from the doctor, I really felt a bolt from the blue. I had insomnia for a couple of days as I was so worried and overwhelmed.

My doctor told me that the worst case scenario was to undergo chemotherapy. For the entire month, I had to go back to the hospital every day to extract blood for examination to ensure there were no remaining “bad” cells that might evolve into cancer. In the process, the most tormenting part wasn’t my body, but my mind, because I am terrified. This question kept repeating in my head, “Will I die just like that?”

One night, unable to sleep, I took out my insurance policy from the closet. I was checking if the insurance coverage was enough for my children's future living expenses.

At that very moment, I seem to comprehend something. No matter how much money I can leave for my children, what is the meaning of giving them money when I can never be by their side? I realised that I have not been chasing after my dreams but blindly pursuing the numbers accumulated in my bank account.

That was my aha moment when I discovered my inner self and the meaning of my life.

After the incident, I made a decision to live a life consistent with my values, and I am determined to be a leader, someone influential like a public speaker or a counselor. I want to be a role model to my children and other women who are like me before, being able to face each challenge confidently in the future.

My wish is for them to be able to face ups and downs in their lives by getting encouragement, guidance and direction from my speeches. Therefore, ever since I recovered, I embarked on a learning journey.

I believe we should continue to work hard to become a better version of ourselves and discover every hidden power in ourselves.

Well, some people are really fortunate as they are able to find their dreams easily. However, for some it may take a lifetime or never. So, here are 3 key factors to help you to discover your dreams.

Ask yourself this question: Who do you want to become?

While busy looking after your family and work, give yourself some time and give a serious thought to it.

What type of person do you want to be? Looking back at your dream that you wished for, are you on the way to fulfillment? We have been so concerned about other people’s dreams that we often forget about ourselves. As time goes by, we will lose the enthusiasm and passion for life. Don’t live with regrets, follow your heart and not your mind. There is no reset button in life so just go for your dreams, never allow reality to make you forget who you really are.

2. Be brave to admit and accept

Most of the people tend to dampen the enthusiasm or laugh at themselves, not willing to boldly admit their dreams. It may be big or small, but we tend to give up before we start to achieve it. In the past, I also felt that I was not good enough. How can I be a leader or a public speaker, standing on stage to share my story or conduct a show? However, later on, I bravely accepted how much I want to achieve my dreams.

And today I am the leader of over 50 female teachers in 6 education centers, and I am also the leader of a real estate company in Malaysia. In my area of work, even though I hold different roles and positions, I'm able to inspire and influence others.

3. Finding your mentor

On the journey of pursuing your dreams, you will face many challenges and obstacles, but as long as you stay true to yourself, there will always be the day of success. The most exciting thing in life is not the moment you realise your dream, but the process of persisting your dream. However, when you are confused and helpless, don't just wander around in silence, you can seek for support and consult with people in related fields. Everyone should have an idol or a person you look up to. If you do not have a person who can guide you now, go and seek for them. Believe and give confidence to yourself as this will definitely give you a hand on your way pursuing your dreams.

I believe that everyone has their own secret power, but they have not yet found out, so my dream is to help and inspire more women to see their value in themselves and affirm their ability. As I believe that a woman who is able to affirm herself has confidence, is abundant, and surely full of love. She will be happy and joyful for the family, and will be able to cheer up someone and show hope to others in life.

I hope that by sharing my story, will inspire you to follow your heart and go for your dream.
