A Podcast All About Gut Issues, Why They Can Be Tough in Recovery, Why Mental Heath is Important, and Why Hoping in God is What Enables Us to Get Through Even the Toughest Parts. . .
Linking up with Amanda to share Janie’s story and my journey with gut health!

I don’t know where to quite even start with this, but I have had SO many gut issues since being in recovery, and they have been hard. (Not saying that for a pity party at all. ? Last year in August, I was crying to my mom about how I was just so discouraged about my gut issues. Gut issues can be hard especially with recovery. It’s hard to listen to your hunger especially when having gut pain at the same time, and it’s been really hard to listen to the hunger especially with extra bloating and just NOT feeling like I wanted to eat. Yet the HUGE turning point for me was finding Nourishing Minds Nutrition.

Victoria taught me so much over 6 months of working with her about my gut. She taught me about how the mind is so connected to the gut; it made my mind just step back in awe and wonder of how God has made us SOOOO intricately, and how anxiety over food can often lead to gut pain. I also realized just how QUICKLY I would rush through meals when she told me how important it was to eat slowly and chew my food thoroughly.

Why gut issues can make recovery hard but why FOOD FREEDOM is WORTH IT! #foodfreedom

All that to say, I am grateful because God has done some amazing healing on my mind and on my stomach, and my gut issues are so much better than they have been in years.

I have a sister in Christ Jesus who has also struggled with gut issues in recovery, and she is a HUGE advocate for Food Freedom and intuitive eating, but it’s hard when you have SIBO. She recently went on a trip to Italy, and she wrote about it in her blog post here, but she essentially talked about how:

Going to Italy Showed Her That Her Body Did Need Carbs for ‘Aunt Flo’

Why She Sincerely Wants to Heal Her Gut But Why Her Mental Relationship with Food is the Most Important

I was so interested by how Janie discovered that her body really did need those carbohydrates, even though SIBO doesn’t heal as quickly with more carbs in the diet.

Now this podcast was NOT to provide medical advice for your gut issues; please consult your doctors/health professionals, but it was two girls sharing their experiences with gut issues, dealing with suffering, finding joy in suffering, and learning about hoping in God.

In the podcast Janie shares:

– Why Going to Italy Taught Her More About the Importance of A Healthy Mental Relationship With Food

– Why It Can Be Tough to Care for Your Gut Health in College

– What Suffering Has Taught Janie about Jesus’ Love for Her

– Why Janie’s ED Did Influence Her Gut Issues

– How Janie Has Come to Find the Sweetness of Jesus Being With Her in Suffering

– The Fine Line Between Restriction and Caring for Your Gut Health

– Why Janie Wants to Promote Food Freedom More Than Anything Else

– What Janie Has Learned About How God Uses Suffering For Our Good

– Why Janie Is Not Wanting to Purposely Restrict Food Groups But She’s Wanting to Work With Her Gut Too

Janie’s Favorite Verse was one that I wanted to share with you in hopes that it would encourage any others who are dealing with suffering right now to look to God and His incredible grace.

2 Corinthians 12:9, ‘And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’

What you will take away from Janie is HOPE. She is hoping and waiting on the Lord for healing, and I see that contagious faith and joy in her so much, that I want more of that myself. I want to have that faith and hope in the mighty power of the God who delivered the Israelites from Egypt and most of all who delivered me from the Egypt of my sin, knowing that He can do above and beyond anything we can ask or think.

He has done so much healing in my sister Janie, as she is one of the most vibrant joyful, free girls I know. You wouldn’t even know she struggled with an ED when you see her Instagram food and gaze at all the delicious variety she has on there. Truly Jesus does heal, and I hope that you come away with that from the podcast.

I’ll leave you with some delicious pictures from Janie’s trip to Italy.
