Eating disorders do not discriminate. I used to feel like I ‘shouldn’t’ have an ED, because I didn’t have that kind of a lifestyle that would lead to an ED. I learned that this isn’t true. Growing up, I wouldn’t have thought that I was susceptible to diet thinking. My parents never talked about dieting or restricting food. They didn’t over exercise. They loved a little bit of activity, but they ate all the foods. They didn’t talk about being fat. They were always positive about movement and rest, sleep and good food, and they never narrowed in on ‘burning calories’, eating a certain way, or restricting certain foods.
I had a WONDERFUL childhood. – I don’t want people to ever think that my childhood produced the ED.
What a full day. I’m exhausted but I’m learning that life is so much more than money and food and body image. Lord Jesus I don’t deserve this family, this life you’ve given me in you but I’m so grateful. And tonight’s chicken wraps were sooo good for my starving stomach. We went to a carnival tonight, and though I got a little whipped around on the rides I’m thankful I got to do it with some of my best human friends. My big bro @danadelfos even blessed us with a funnel cake. #beautyinchrist #lifeismorethanfood #nourishyoursoul

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”
??2 Peter? ?3:13-14? ?
I still have had 10 years of struggle. That’s why I wanted to tell you that EDs don’t discriminate, whether you be tall or short, a bigger body size, a smaller body size, a guy, or a girl. If there’s someone here that feels like they want to say something, but they don’t ‘fit’ the stereotype, that’s ok, because there is no stereotype for eating disorders. The more and more I’ve shared my story, the more I’ve realized how they affect so many people.
I want to say that if you feel like you shouldn’t be struggling, because you had no circumstances or a growing up environment that would lead to it, you’re not alone in that struggle. Yet it’s OK to share your hurts. It’s ok to share your brokenness. Jesus came to heal broken hearts, to bind up wounds, to rescue struggling people like me and you.

I think the biggest lesson here is that you can never box people up and expect that people will all fit into that one ED box or whatever box you have. God made us all organic changeable beings, and I know that because of sin and the effects of it, we’re all touched by it. A boy raised in a loving home or a girl raised in a loving home could both have an ED even if they didn’t have a history of prior abuse or trauma. I by NO MEANS want to downplay the horrible sad tragedy of abuse happening in homes, but I want to remind you that there’s no one that’s immune to sin and its effects.
And that also means . . . that there is no one sooo deep in their ED that Jesus can not pluck them out, like He did to me.
I have SOO much more food freedom than I’ve ever had before, even though I still see diet culture, and it’s all around me.
It’s possible to be delivered out of it and walk in liberty, walk in the light, even though I was walking in darkness for SOO many years. Jesus truly does do miracles. I don’t want to ever communicate that I recovered because I’m stronger than anybody else or more deserving. God did it all. He changed my heart. He’s changing my heart! Please don’t doubt that God can do a miracle in you too.
let’s band together in helping one another uncover any of the darkness around EDs and shed light on them. I am so very grateful for several women that I mention a LOT who are constantly dispelling/going after diet culture.
These are some of the women I mentioned in the show:
Robyn – the Real Life RD
Naomi – Naomi Why Roots
Nourishing Minds Nutrition – Meg & Victoria
Sarah – Bucket List Tummy
Now let’s talk!
Have you ever had an ED stereotype in your mind?
What prompted you to share your struggles with others (even if you felt like you ‘shouldn’t have an ED)?
