In this episode of the “because, bikers matter!” ® Podcast with founder & Host David "Vegas" Shuman interviews Dr. Mike Acierno, a dentist who is passionate about serving veterans. Dr. Acierno shares his personal connection to veterans, as his grandfather was a World War II vet, and how it inspired him to give back to those who have served.
Dr. Acierno and his brother run a dental practice called Acierno Family Dental, which is part of the larger group called Decision One Dental. They have 40 offices all over the Chicago area and over 300 team members. Despite being part of a larger group, each practice maintains a neighborhood dental feel and operates independently.
The conversation turns to the special event that Dr. Acierno and his team organize called "Celebrating Those Who Served." This event started as a response to the State of Illinois discontinuing their program for free dental services for veterans. Dr. Acierno and his team decided to step in and continue providing free dental care to veterans on Veterans Day.
The event offers a wide range of dental services, including extractions, fillings, crown and bridge work, dentures, cleanings, and periodontal work. The team of volunteers, including dentists and hygienists, work together to provide much-needed dental care to veterans in need. Last year alone, they provided over $100,000 worth of dentistry for free.

The website provides contact information, including an email address and an 800 number, for veterans to reach out and secure their appointment. The event is scheduled for November 4th, and Dr. Acierno is excited to have the most volunteers and patients yet this year.
