This is episode 28 of the becoming human podcast, where I explore the spectrum of humanity, teasing what people are drawn to, their conflicts, successes, and observations. This week, I sit down with Kris Anderson, she's a comedian and hairstylist out of Bellingham. Check her out @krysanthemum64 https://www.instagram.com/krysanthemum64/

I was really into writing and performing in my youth which led me to poetry. I was disappointed to find very limited avenues to professionally pursue poetry coupled with the stigmas attached to it. Meaning I would have to find an audience outside of poetry and then I was introduced to comedy. Both poetry and comedy aim to connect and engage an audience using words, but the devices were different and I liked it. I'm really bad at being humorous, but writing is almost a compulsion at this point in my life. Observing life and following my natural curiosities has been my obsession since I could remember. Maybe I should have been a journalist, eh that way of connecting with people doesn't always resonate very deep. Making someone laugh in comedy or hang on their seat in poetry that sounds like a good time…. In this episode, I try to learn the process of becoming a comic in the Pacific Northwest and the concept behind jokes. Add usual, we cover a large spectrum of tangents- attending alternative school, hair styling, rural culture and why I need to join the cult of costco.
