Wie das Statistische Bundesamt am 19. Juni 2024 veröffentlicht hat, gab es dieses Jahr im ersten Quartal 2,3% mehr Schwangerschaftsabbrüche als im Vorjahr. Bislang regelt der Paragraph 218, dass Schwangerschaftsabbrüche in Deutschland zwar nicht erlaubt sind, aber ihre Durchführung nicht strafrechtlich verfolgt wird. Fällt der Paragraph weg, ist ein Abbruch in Zukunft gar nicht mehr strafbar. Am vergangenen Katholikentag - Ende Mai, Anfang Juni - in Erfurt gab es genau zu diesem Thema ein Podium.
